Our Routes
Why Mediterranean Routes for Motorcycle Tours
Freedom first, support always. You’ll ride at your own pace, choose where to stop for photos or coffee, and add detours when you feel like it. At the same time, I’m behind the scenes making everything smooth: from route design and hotel bookings to 24/7 assistance while you’re on the road.
Routes built by riders. I map each day to balance great scenery with satisfying riding—mountain passes, quiet B-roads, coastal curves—and I include smart lunch spots, fuel stops, and photo-worthy viewpoints so you keep momentum without guesswork.
Late-model fleet, luggage included. Prefer traveling light? Each bike comes equipped with panniers and a top case, and our motorcycles are renewed every two years—briefed and ready when you arrive.
How It Works (100% Personalized, Secure Booking)
From the very first contact, we make sure your journey is 100% personalized. Once you send us your enquiry, you will receive detailed information about the route that best fits your style and needs. In addition, we organize a briefing video call to answer all your questions before booking.
When you’re ready to secure your spot, you can do so quickly and safely with a 30% deposit of the total amount. From that moment on, you will receive your travel guide with all the necessary details so you can focus solely on enjoying the experience.
Before departure, we hold another online briefing to ensure everything is clear, and on the day your route begins, your motorcycle and GPS will be waiting for you at the starting point. And of course, you will have 24/7 support throughout your entire journey.

Best Time to Ride motorcycle routes (By Region)
- Mediterranean South (Andalusia, Costa Blanca): great year-round; the sweet spots are March–June and September–November for perfect temps and quieter roads.
- Pyrenees & Northern Spain: May–October is prime—clear passes, long daylight, and stable weather; expect cooler mornings at altitude.
- Portugal (including N2): spring and autumn shine for mild days and low rain; summers are doable but hotter inland.
If your dates are fixed, I’ll adapt mileages and hotel choices to match the season and daylight, and we’ll plan heat-smart start times in mid-summer.

- License & age: full motorcycle license valid in Spain/Portugal; check if you need an IDP depending on your country.
- Deposit & coverage: a refundable security deposit applies; insurance details vary by model/route—I’ll outline the excess and coverage in your quote so there are no surprises.

Testimonials from our clients
FAQs
How do self-guided motorcycle tours work?
We specialise in self guided motorcycle tours across Spain, designed as all-inclusive motorcycle trips so you can focus on enjoying the ride. We can help you plan the full journey, arrange accommodation and motorcycle hire, suggest sightseeing stops and restaurants, and shape a route through outstanding landscapes, historic sites, and some of the most memorable motorcycle roads in the country.
Our self guided motorcycle tours usually include:
Full GPX file and GPX files for each stage
Google Maps overview and individual stage maps
A guide to stops, landmarks, and cultural highlights for each stage
Restaurant recommendations and local dining tips for every day
Road and safety advice for each section
You will also have 24/7 assistance throughout your moto tour in case you need help with navigation, route questions, or any issue on the road.
Before departure, we schedule several 1:1 video briefings to review every stage, your travel plan, and the details of your motorcycle routes.
We can also recommend, reserve, and manage hotels with bed and breakfast when needed.
Can I bring a passenger on the moto tour?
Absolutely. Our moto tours, guided motorbike tours, and motorcycle rides are just as enjoyable with a passenger, and many travellers love sharing the experience of the journey together.
What is the average daily mileage on your motorcycle routes?
We usually organise daily motorcycle routes of around 250 to 350 km, with approximately 4.5 hours of riding. The priority is not speed, but enjoying the day at a comfortable pace, with enough time for breaks, cultural visits, scenic viewpoints, and rest. During our one-to-one briefings, we always discuss your riding preferences and adapt the daily distance to suit your comfort level.
Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP) for motorcycle tours in Spain?
Driving in Spain as a foreign visitor depends on your country of origin, your residency status, and the agreements in place with Spain.
For travellers from Europe and the European Economic Area, your A motorcycle licence is normally enough for motorcycles over 35 kW.
For travellers from countries covered by bilateral exchange agreements, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Morocco, Ecuador, Venezuela, Japan, and others, your national driving licence is usually accepted for motorcycles over 35 kW.
In practice, police often accept standard-format national licences with photo, dates, and official details. Even so, we strongly recommend obtaining an IDP, especially to support insurance validity during motorcycle vacation travel.
You can usually request an IDP through the relevant motoring association or traffic authority in your country.
What is the weather like, and which are the best months for motorcycle touring holidays?
Spain is one of the best destinations in Europe for motorcycle touring holidays because of its varied scenery, dependable climate, and excellent riding infrastructure. In one country, you can enjoy mountain passes, Mediterranean coastlines, green valleys, deserts, and historic villages, all connected by scenic motorcycle roads and quiet secondary routes.
This variety makes Spain ideal for european motorcycle tours, whether you prefer coastal motorcycle rides, inland moto routes, or mountain-based motorbike trails. In just a few days, you can move from the Pyrenees to Andalusia, or from cultural cities to remote natural parks.
The weather is another major advantage. Many parts of Spain enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine a year, so the riding season is long. The best months are usually April, May, June, September, and October, when temperatures are pleasant and traffic is lighter. In summer, the north and coastal areas are excellent, while spring and autumn are perfect for regions such as Andalusia, Valencia, Castile-La Mancha, and Catalonia.
What is the payment schedule for organised motorcycle tours?
A 30% deposit confirms your booking. The remaining balance is paid closer to departure, and the full details are always included in your quotation.
How much is the security deposit for a motorcycle tour, how is it paid, and when is it refunded?
For our self-guided motorcycle tours, a 30% reservation deposit applies. The exact amount and coverage conditions may vary depending on the motorcycle model and the route you choose. We always explain the deposit and deductible clearly in your quotation before any payment is made, so you know exactly what to expect in advance.
What insurance is included, and what is not covered during motorcycle trips?
Mediterranean Routes carries the mandatory liability insurance required for its operations. If you travel on a rental bike, the motorcycle is insured by the rental company and normally includes roadside assistance and comprehensive cover. We can also offer optional travel insurance through IATI Seguros, including medical cover and trip cancellation insurance for your motorcycle trips.
What happens if the motorcycle breaks down during the trip or I have a mechanical issue on the road?
Every motorcycle is carefully checked before departure to make sure it is in proper working condition. During your self-guided trip, you also have access to our 24/7 assistance service, so if any mechanical issue happens on the road, help is available whenever you need it.
What happens if I miss a waypoint, take a detour, or want to change part of the route during the trip?
Self-guided travel means you ride independently and at your own pace. You do not have to follow the planned route exactly, and you are free to take detours, adjust your plan, or explore alternative motorbike routes during the journey. That said, because it is a self-guided experience, decisions made on the road and their consequences remain your responsibility. We provide preloaded GPS tracks, a travel guide, and 24/7 support so you can enjoy your motorcycle road trip with confidence.
Are the routes suitable for solo riders with intermediate experience, or are they demanding?
Our trips are designed to suit different experience levels, and we tailor each itinerary so it remains enjoyable and realistic. We adapt our recommendations for pace, mileage, and riding style based on your experience and travel goals. If you tell us what kind of riding you enjoy and how far you feel comfortable riding each day, we will guide you toward the option that suits you best.
Riding any motorcycle involves risk and requires experience to do it safely. Touring models are often heavier, especially when fitted with luggage, so previous experience is important. On longer motorcycle excursions, riders may face rain, narrow roads, wind, or high temperatures, so confidence and preparation matter. This is particularly relevant if you are travelling on an adventure touring motorcycle or considering a larger, affordable touring motorcycle for a multi-day trip.
Can I tailor the route to avoid very long riding days or physically demanding sections?
Yes. Personalisation is a key part of our self-guided concept. We can adapt the daily plan to your riding style, whether you prefer shorter stages with more stops, longer days in the saddle, or a balanced mix of both. If your travel dates are fixed, we also adapt the route and hotel selection to the season and available daylight. This allows us to design motorcycle touring routes that fit your pace rather than forcing you into a standard programme.
What hotel quality should I realistically expect, and can I upgrade rooms for more comfort?
Our self-guided packages normally include carefully selected 3- to 4-star hotels, with breakfast included on most itineraries. We usually choose boutique or characterful properties so the accommodation becomes part of the overall experience as well. Once you select your preferred itinerary, we send you a detailed breakdown of what is included, and we can discuss upgrades if you want extra comfort during your motorcycle touring holidays.
Can I add extra nights before or after the route through you, or do I need to arrange that myself?
Yes, we can arrange optional extras such as additional nights or rest days before or after the main route. Because every itinerary is personalised, the best time to confirm these details is during the enquiry and briefing stage, when we can advise you according to your dates, route, and preferred style of travel.
Is there a minimum or maximum group size for a self-guided booking?
We accept both solo and group bookings for our self-guided itineraries. Whether you are planning individual motorbike trips or travelling with a larger group, we can advise you on the most suitable setup for your booking.
Are these motorcycle tours a good option if it is my first motorcycle trip in Spain or Portugal?
Yes. Our itineraries can work very well for riders planning their first motorcycle vacation in Spain or Portugal, as long as the route is matched to their experience level. We can help first-time visitors choose suitable moto trips, realistic daily stages, and enjoyable roads, making the experience far easier to manage and more rewarding from the start.
What is the minimum personal gear required for motorcycle travel?
We recommend, at minimum, a proper jacket, gloves, trousers, and boots. This basic equipment is essential for reducing the risk of injury in the event of an accident and for making your ride safer and more comfortable on long motorbike roads.
Can I store my gear somewhere before the moto tour starts?
Yes. Our rental stations offer free luggage storage, so any bags or extra items you do not want to carry on your moto tour can be safely left with us until you return.
What extra cash will I need during the trip?
You should allow extra cash or card budget for lunches, snacks, fuel, personal expenses, tolls, and tips during your motorcycle vacation.
What are the rest days during the tour?
Rest days are usually planned in places with cultural, scenic, or recreational value, often after several days of riding. They give you time to relax, enjoy the local atmosphere, or continue exploring on your own. If you still want to ride, we can also suggest optional motorcycle excursions, scenic motorbike roads, or shorter motorcycle touring routes for that day.
Ready to hit the road?
Let me know your dates and the kind of route you like, and I’ll put together the perfect self-guided motorcycle tour for you.
